Your Tongue Holds Power!

I'm a Facebooker... no doubt about it. I keep up on everything there from personal life to business. As large as my family is between my side of the tree and Mike's side of the tree, half of the people on my friend's list are family members, so it's a great way for us to keep in touch with family, let them know what we're up to or how we're doing, and vice versa. We also have friends across the country (and even some abroad) that we don't get the chance to talk to as often as we would like, so it's nice to check in on them and let them know the thought is there.

However... is it just me or is negativity streaming through your news feed too?? It boggles my mind every time I sign on and see post after post of negativity, complaints, drama, and confusion! People! God is NOT the author of confusion! We are to be spreading joy, comfort, peace, goodness, and love to those around us!

In the winter months it's too cold. In the summer months it's too hot. Too much rain. Not enough rain. When school is in session it's too early to be up. If school is out of session kids are driving parents nuts. Too tired. Overworked. Underpaid. Stressed. Irritated. Needing naps. The day went too fast. The day is creeping by too slow. SO MUCH NEGATIVE!

There is POWER in our words. If you don't like how your day/week/month/year is going, then speak differently... speak words that encourage positive changes as if it were so. If all we speak is negativity, then it's no wonder the day isn't going better for us! Proverbs 18:21 says "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof". Your tongue may not physically be able to alter the weather, change your child's habits, move the hands on the clock, or clear your mind of the days to-do list... but your attitude toward your surroundings and situations CAN be changed by what you speak.

Watch what you say (or in a case like Facebook what you type), because we are accountable for every word. Matthew 12:36 reminds us "...that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment". Picture yourself standing before God on Judgement Day. He presses "play" on the tape recorder of your life. Will it be complaints, problems, stresses, irritation, worries, griping, and confusion? Or will it be pleasing to His ears because there is rejoicing for what is, was, and is to come? You never know who is listening to (or reading) what you have to say, so make it something uplifting, thankful, encouraging, happy... POSITIVE!

It is said that anything done deliberately for 14 days in a row will ultimately become a habit. I challenge you to speak, post, type, and even mumble positively for 14 days. Each time something negative accidentally slips out, contradict it with a positive. Influence the world around you with goodness... it all begins with the words sitting on your tongue!

Hey Sweetie... welcome back to blogging!! I've missed you & Sweet T :-)

I was convicted by your post today as I have been one of those complainers... but seriously... the rain!! We really had ENOUGH! lol On a truly serious note, you are SO right. We should use our social media to build one another up & show our non-Christian friends that we are different because of the Light that lives within us!

Thanks for that much needed reminder!
And... thanks for the sweet note on my blog! Hopefully we can swing down your way sometime soon. Not sure if we're headed to NC this summer as we have GOBS of weddings and Doug's travel to tend to up here. I do look forward to wrapping my arms around you again soon though! Love ya xo

I so agree with this!! Dan and I talk about this a lot, how our words can be blessings to ourselves/others or curses. Life and death is in the power of the tongue.
